Profile

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, into a family of mixed European heritage: Basque, Greek and Italian, and a strong leaning towards the Arts, mainly Music. Playing several instruments since early childhood, Guitar, Violoncello, Double Bass, and later on Viola da Gamba and conducting, shaped Francisco Obieta into an open minded, open styled musician and composer. First compositions at the age of 10. Folklore, Tango, Rock, Electronic Music, Jazz and Classical music have been ever since his field of activity.

 

EXPERIENCE

Many Students from all over the world attest the high level tuition received at the Feldkirch (Austria) Conservatory in the last decades with their positions in world leading orchestras, music education institutions and concert halls all over the world

Performances all over Europe with a wide array of repertoire, including own several compositions, have met with wonderful echoes.

 

PRINCIPAL DOUBLE BASSIST — 1980 - 2010

During the past decades, Francisco Obieta has been principal double bassist at several orchestras in the world: Buenos Aires, Brasilia, Milan, Berne, Zürich and St. Galle. Giving it up in 2010 to concentrate on composing, conducting and solo performing.
